A worn teddy bear on a rooftop ledge above downtown LA, poem about the night I met my wife by Joshua Cintron.

Beneath the Lights of Our Grand City

Joshua Cintron

There’s a night I don’t tell many people about in detail: a rooftop bar in downtown LA, a full moon, a band playing something slow. Some connections feel too unlikely to belong to chance. I didn’t call it fate then. I call it that now.

When two people click as you and I did, it is a
moment of surreal joy – a

cosmic event beholden to nature, orchestrated
by powers far greater

than you and me. All we can do is embrace
what we have, like children

embracing a teddy bear at night, and hold
close the night we shared beneath

the lights of our grand city,
when our lives become complete.
