AI is a tool that’s gaining popularity. Since I started using it, I’ve used it every day as an advisor, assistant, teacher and in whatever form I need advice or guidance.
I use AI on this site not because I don’t trust my writing and editing skills. I use it because managing sayspire.com is a one-man show and there are only so many hours in the day.
I want to assure you that even though I use AI to assist in the management of sayspire.com, every poem, saying, essay and personal story is my own. Whatever thought, memory, event or idea that I lived through or carried within me is mine. I don’t use AI to create a poem, saying or essay and sign off on it as my own nor will I ever.
Where I do use AI is in the work surrounding my writing such as: proofreading, editing, grammar, formatting, wording for supporting copy, keywords and SEO.
These are the kinds of editorial tasks writers have relied on editors and other professionals to help with. I know. I’ve paid editors thousands to review my self-published book and I got back countless pages of red ink. This editorial work has been done since the world of publishing began.
I just don’t have the budget to hire staff to perform these tasks so AI helps me in those critical areas.
Some of the short intro/outro reflections, excerpts and page descriptions around each poem are written with AI assistance. Still, I review all of it, make changes and ensure it sounds like me.
The featured images are also created by AI; I pick the concept, review it, iterate on it and ultimately approve it. Nothing is published without my final say. No design team but the AI and me.
My poems, sayings and essays are mine. AI may suggest edits or different wording but I decide what changes are approved and published. The thought, experience and meaning are still my own. If you’ve ever used AI, you know that stuff gets invented out of thin air. Yeah, no thanks. I’m not letting AI invent my memories, relationships or experiences. If I tell you something on sayspire.com happened to me, it happened to me.
I make the final call on everything that’s published on sayspire.com. Every poem. Every saying. Every page. AI is just the tool I use to help build this site; it’s not the reason this site exists.
Technology serves the work, not the other way around.
