A nostalgic poem capturing a simple night out; dinner, laughter, and the comfort of connection. The Rhythm of Easy Evenings is a cinematic glimpse into the beauty of ordinary joy and unhurried companionship.
Beer, then water,
keeping a 1:1 rhythm,
starting with the early dinner
we had at Bar Louie.
We ordered bruschetta
and barbecue flatbread,
delicious.
We enjoyed ourselves:
eating, drinking,
watching the Western Conference semifinals,
Warriors vs. Pelicans.
All was well in the world.
Her iPhone screen lit up.
A message,
her friend was at La Corona,
asking her to join.
We finished our beers,
boxed the last three flatbread squares,
and left.
La Corona was buzzing,
tables packed with off-duty coworkers,
a few of their partners,
all relaxed and laughing,
the end-of-week energy filling the air.
My girl and I wove through the crowded space,
squeezing past chairs,
shifting seated people to the side
as we found her friend.
I walked to the bar,
ordered our drinks,
and returned to the table.
We laughed,
shared stories,
raised our glasses
among her coworkers and friends.
It was a great time.
An easy time.
A beautiful end
to a long, loud week.
Friendship flowing,
like beer, then water
Sometimes, the simplest nights remind us that peace doesn’t need to be chased, it can be shared.
